Deer Whistles for Cars

Deer Whistles Can Reduce Accidents
Living in rural southern Maryland, I commute everyday through beautiful Amish country. I typically leave home about 5:45am every morning, so it's basically pitch black outside.. It takes me about an hour to get to work. Along the way, typically every day, I tend to see quite a few deer along the roadside, grazing the thin grass there. Last year, I clipped two deer with my right bumper, nearly losing control of my car, and just a month ago (October 2010), I clipped another deer with my left bumper, jumping out of the dark night onto the road.. I'm lucky I kept control of my car in both instances.. During the months of October and November, in the southern Maryland area, the deer are out in big numbers, due to rutting (or mating) season. They're more active and on the move more. This is clearly evident with the large number of deer carcasses along the roadway and associated car accidents.

How to Install a Deer Whistle on a Vehicle. Deer whistles have been around since the late 1970s. They are a small device that is attached to the front of a vehicle. As air moves through this device it produces an ultrasonic whistling noise....
Deer Whistles - The Dual Pitch Method
Deer Whistles typically come in pairs (as seen in the photo above right), creating what's called a "dual pitch method", when you reach speeds of 30-35 miles per hour or greater, which get the deer's attention. They are fastened to the grill of your car, and can be removed when you wash your vehicle or to clean the whistles themselves.
The sound is not detectable by humans, so you won't be driving down the road with some obnoxious sound emanating from your car.. Trust me, I have a whistle on my car..
Take This Seriously if You're in Deer Country
My co-worker's brother, about a year ago, struck a buck, which penetrated his windshield. Part of his rack gored him in the chest. He was air lifted to a hospital, where he had emergency surgery, and lost a kidney. He survived, miraculously, but totaled his truck in the process. This is a serious situation for folks driving in deer country, and I highly recommend you considering purchasing a deer whistle set for your vehicle.

I LOVE my deer whistles! A few years back my husband "bagged his first deer" with his truck and I bought deer whistles for all the rest of our vehicles! I have spotted many deer since then, but none of them have been near enough to hit. Good hub and good recommendation! Voted up and useful!
